Bug #2066356 “A list of Ubuntu bugs” : Bugs : Ubuntu (2024)

A list of Ubuntu bugs on the latest 'stable' version.
The most current 'stable' version is 24.04. as of May 22nd. All the bugs listed below apply to version 24.04.

System: Ubuntu 24.04
GPU: MSI Nvidia RTX 4070 Windforce OC 12gb
CPU: 14th gen i7 14700KF
(nvidia and intel is cringe i know)
Storage: Samsung 2TB SSD NVME 980 Pro
Motherboard: MSI PRO B760M-A WIFI DDR4

Words wrapped in * are not exaggerations, like *never*
____________________________________________________________________________________________
1. Using arrow keys to move cursor while renaming files makes it select another file and dismiss the renaming. This only happens when on desktop, and *always* happens. This *never* happens in the 'Files' application, or any file explorer application. This happens consistently, *every* time.
___________________________
Create a random file to your desktop
Right click and press 'Rename', and try to use the arrow keys to more around the cursor to rename the file.
The file must be renamed in the desktop, and not in the 'files' app nor in any other file explorer app

2. Applications can only be launched when in the downloads folder, even when made executable. applications. This also appears to happen on applications that: Have to be made executable, or are packaged into one file. This also only seems to happen on some files/applications, but is consistent to reproduce with those files/applications. These applications have to be downloaded from the internet through the browser for bug to reproduce.
___________________________
1 Example of a file/application that does this: Cracker1000 mod
Link to download: https://powdertoy.co.uk/Discussions/Thread/View.html?Thread=23279
___________________________
Scroll down to the bottom and click Linux. Then right click and make executable after the download is finished, in the downloads folder. Double click it, and the app should work, move it to your desktop, and it does not execute. Making it executable while in the desktop also does not change the outcome.

3. When clicking on a maximised application, the click is registered to the window below or to the desktop. When in fullscreen, the same happens, and it minimises the fullscreen application. Both of these have the fun little quirk of only being able to use your keyboard with them after you've clicked on them. Notifications make the current application you're on unfocused and treats it as if the notification is an application window and you're focused on it. All of the bugs above also rarely happen with non-maximised and non-fullscreened applications. This only happens on some applications, but is consistent to reproduce with those applications.

4. Steam bugs
- When clicking play game, sometimes quits the game after launching.
- When clicking play game, the button says the game is launched but did not launch the game in the first place.
- Also does all of these even when they worked before or work in the future with no changes done.
Ability to reproduce specific bugs is inconsistent, and ability to reproduce any of the bugs is fairly consistent.
___________________________
1 Example of a game that does this(on steam): Geometry dash
___________________________
Download it, and launch it. Go to settings, and compatibility. Then press the 'Enable steam play for other titles'. If it functions normally, restart your system and try again. If it never ceases to work as expected, I am not sure how to reproduce this bug.

- The audio of certain games ceases to functions until restart of game if system locked(Super+L and wait ~10-20 before unlocking).
This bug *always* works, but only on specific games.
___________________________
1 Example of a game that does this(on steam): Heartbound
___________________________
Download it, and launch it. Then while its running, lock your system by pressing Super+L. Then unlock your system after waiting ~10-20 seconds.

5. Autocorrect bugs
Autocorrect autocorrects words properly, but if the word contains a quotation mark(as in You've, or You're) it still considers it wrong and tries to correct the 'word' after the quotation mark, and the 'word' before the quotation mark if it deems it incorrect. This also happens when the autocorrect itself did the change to add a quotation mark. This also sometimes doesn't happen, with a word it not happening in is 'you're'. Autocorrect also refuses to apply the suggested autocorrection after being clicked on - if it contains a quotation mark. This also happens randomly, and the bug sometimes disappears. Happens consistently. Happens with the default, built in autocorrect. This ONLY happens with the default built-in autocorrect. LibreOffice writer does not have this bug as it has it's own autocorrect.
___________________________
Make sure to do this in 'Text edit' as it uses the default, built-in autocorrect instead a custom one like LibreOffice Writer.
Open 'Text Edit', and type in 'Youve', press return/enter, and type in 'Youre'. Also do this for 'Doesnt' and 'Dont'. Spelling mistake intentional.
Right click and press the autocorrected option, and do the same for all.
'Doesnt' gets corrected to 'Doesn't', and it shows that the 'Doesn' part of 'Doesn't' is labelled as incorrect.
'Dont' gets corrected to 'Don't', and it shows that the whole word is correct.
'Youve' gets corrected to 'You've', and it shows that the 've' part of 'You've' is labelled as incorrect.
'Youre' gets corrected to 'You're', and it shows that the whole word is correct.

6. Sound appears to stop functioning while downloading an application and after downloading an application from 'App Center'. Sound continues to function when 'App Center' is closed. This only happens after a period of time the application has been installing, and/or while 2 applications are installing simultaneously. Unclear which for now. Ability to reproduce the bug is inconsistent.

7. Text Edit bugs
'Text edit' becomes 'unresponsive' after the save menu is opened(CTRL+S) and the 'Text edit' window behind it is moved. After the window is closed, 'Text edit' continues to function normally, but windows keep popping up that is unresponsive. When switching to a different window, minimising that window, and then switching back, the 'Text edit' application freezes for a few seconds (5-15 seconds). This also happens when most of the 'Text edit' windows is even slightly off screen screen, even when in focus(as in dragged to to a corner so part of it is off screen). Effect of freezing is more pronounced as it is more off screen. All of these bugs only happen sometimes. Ability to reproduce the bugs is semi-consistent, and am not sure that this is the way to reproduce some of the bugs, but they do happen as described.
