Gacha games have a stereotype for draining money out of players’ pockets. While it can be true in many cases, HoYoverse is one of the friendliest companies in this video game genre. It is so generous that some of its latest titles give you several characters for free that’ll carry you through the early game stages. One of the first characters you’ll get is March 7th. Despite her strange name, she is one of the best units you can get that’ll provide good damage and defense for the team. Yet, if you want to use her for more challenging stuff, today we’ve prepared the best build for March 7th in Honkai Star Rail, including both of her paths.
(Updated on August 4, 2024 – Updated March 7th’s first build and added a new build for her new Path introduced in Version 2.4).
Best Preservation Build for March 7th
Let’s kick this off with March 7th’s first path: Preservation. Before we got Fu Xuan or Aventurine, March 7th was one of the only two tanks in the game, including Gepard. Since she’s a free character for everyone, it isn’t bad to have her as the frontline character of a team.
Light Cones
While she isn’t the best at the role, if you don’t have any of the aforementioned characters, she’ll do great during certain fights. To get her build started, here are the Light Cones we recommend:
Light Cone | Description |
---|---|
Moment of Victory (Best/5-Star) | Increases the wearer’s DEF by 24% and Effect Hit Rate by 24%. Increases the chance for the wearer to be attacked by enemies. When the wearer is attacked, increase their DEF by an extra 24% until the end of the wearer’s turn. |
Landau’s Choice (4-Star) | The wearer is more likely to be attacked, and DMG taken is reduced by 16%. |
Day One of My New Life (4-Star) | Increases wearer’s DEF by 16%. After entering battle, increase the All-Type RES of all allies by 8%. Effects of the same type cannot stack. |
Moment of Victory is the best Light Cone for March 7th and one that will work perfectly in this Preservation build in Honkai Star Rail. The thing about this Light Cone is that it makes March 7th more likely to be attacked, which triggers her counterattacks if she has her shield up and increases her defense as she takes damage.
Alternatively, you can get Landau’s Choice, which is a much cheaper option and does something similar to the above minus the DEF increase. And if you really have no other choice, Day One of My New Life is great as it buffs your team when she enters, but it isn’t as great as the others.
Relics & Stats
The only set that works for March 7th, at least on her Preservation build, is Knight of Purity Palace. This is a set made specifically for tanks, and it isn’t too hard to farm. Beyond that, she needs the Broken Keel for her Planar Ornaments, which buff your team’s CRIT DMG if certain stat conditions are met. Speaking of stats, here’s what she needs:
Relic/Ornament | Stat Priority |
---|---|
Body Piece | DEF% |
Feet | Speed |
Planar Sphere | DEF% |
Link Rope | DEF% |

Given the awful RNG regarding relics, you’ll likely get a lot of DEF% buffs, which is what we all get most of the time. For March 7th, it is important to prioritize DEF% as the primary stat and then focus on Energy Regen and Effect RES. Having all those will beef up March 7th and make her a great tank.
Team Composition
Sadly, March 7th doesn’t shine with this build inHonkai Star Raildue to the fact that the game has much better tanks. Still, if she’s your only sustain in the game, there’s only one real team where she shines:
- Sustain/Tank: March 7th
- Support: Robin
- Main DPS: Topaz
- Sub DPS: Clara
This team isn’t F2P-friendly, but it’s the only one where our Astral Express member works well. It focuses on follow-up attacks, and the gist is buffing Topaz so she can trigger as many follow-up attacks as possible. March 7th and Clara are great for this and synergize well with the IPC debt collector.
Best Hunt Build for March 7th
Version 2.4 of Honkai Star Rail finally gave March 7th a new path and new build possibilities. Contrary to her previous path, March 7th as a member of The Hunt is fantastic and quite meta, even as a 4-star character. She does a lot of damage and synergizes well with top-tier follow-up attackers such as Yunli and Dr. Ratio.
Light Cones
For the Imaginary build of March 7th in Honkai Star Rail, you’ll really need 5-star Light Cones if you want to make this lady hit like a truck. While there’s a good 4-star one she can equip, a Premium one will do wonders for her. Here are the ones we recommend:
Light Cone | Description |
---|---|
In the Night (Best/5-Star) | Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 18%. While the wearer is in battle, for every 10 SPD that exceeds 100, the DMG of the wearer’s Basic ATK and Skill is increased by 6% and the CRIT DMG of their Ultimate is increased by 12%. This effect can stack up to 6 times. |
Baptism of Pure Thought (5-Star) | Increases the wearer’s CRIT DMG by 20%. For every debuff on the enemy target, the wearer’s CRIT DMG dealt against this target increases by 8%, stacking up to 3 times. When using their Ultimate to attack the enemy target, the wearer receives the Disputation effect, which increases DMG dealt by 36% and enables their follow-up attacks to ignore 24% of the target’s DEF. This effect lasts for 2 turns. |
Swordplay (4-Star) | For each time the wearer hits the same target, DMG dealt increases by 8%, stacking up to 5 times. This effect will be dispelled when the wearer changes targets. |
If you’re going for a basic DPS build with no other mechanics on the side, In the Night is the best Light Cone you can get. The CRIT Rate increase, plus the stackable damage buff, is fantastic for any Hunt character. If you don’t have it, Dr. Ratio’s premium Light Cone is also great, but it works better in follow-up attack teams, which are quite meta lately. Assuming you lack any of the above, the stackable buff of Swordplay is also great, but you’ll need to Superimpose this Light Cone to the maximum level.
Relics & Stats
March 7th follows the same stat requirement as other DPS characters in Honkai Star Rail, so in a way, getting the right build for her shouldn’t be hard. For the Relic set, Wastelander of Banditry Desert is the best. For Planar Ornaments, go with Rutilant Arena for an extra CRIT increase. Here are the stats you need:
Relic/Ornament | Stat |
---|---|
Body Piece | CRIT Rate |
Feet Piece | ATK% or Speed (Preferably ATK%) |
Planar Sphere | ATK% |
Link Rope | ATK% |
Other than those, focus on increasing her CRIT DMG and CRIT Rate at all costs. If you get bad stat increases as you level your Relics up, you can mainly focus on ATK%. However, CRIT DMG and Rate are paramount.
Team Composition
Contrary to her Preservation build, DPS March 7th fits in many Honkai Star Rail team compositions. Since there are many to pick from, we’ll recommend a few so you can mix and match.
Follow-Up Attack Team | Imaginary Super Break Team |
---|---|
Main DPS: March 7th Sub DPS: Dr. Ratio Support: Robin Sustain: Aventurine | Main DPS: March 7th Support 1: Trailblazer (Harmony) Support 2: Ruan Mei Sustain: Gallagher |

If you ask me, both teams are great, but I prefer the second one as I’m a big fan of the Superbreak mechanic. However, you can’t go wrong with either. Ultimately, it depends on how many characters you have and if you’re able to assemble a team. If not, March 7th does well in follow-up attack teams, so you can pair her with characters who are good at this, such as Topaz, Yunli, and Dr. Ratio.
